We're teaming up with the San Juan Citizens Alliance for a free day hike to Ice Lake Basin. Learn about the history and topography of the region and why it's been included in the San Juan Mountains Wilderness Act. The trail can be challenging with nearly 2,500 feet elevation gain over 3.5 miles (one way), so we recommend all participants be in good physical health and condition. If you're interested in joining us, please RSVP with SJCA at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We'll meet at the Ice Lake Basin trailhead at 8:30 am. Please bring the following items:
Backpack and rain cover
Lunch and snacks
Hiking boots or shoes
Comfortable clothes for hiking
Rain jacket and pants
Fleece or other insulating layer

September 15 - Chili Chase Run for the Mountains 10K & Cook-off
It’s chili + running, but not in that order! Our 8th Annual Chili Chase will now be a very hilly 10K through the Ned Overend Mountain Park in Durango. Proceeds from the race will benefit the San Juan Mountains Association’s efforts to promote the responsible use of natural and cultural resources. After the race, all runners will receive a free entry into the chili cook-off featuring 20+ dishes from local businesses and organizations.
Pure Land is the story of the most brutal murder in the history of the Grand Canyon and how McGivney's quest to investigate the victim's life and death wound up guiding the author through her own life-threatening crisis. On this journey stretching from the southern tip of Japan to the bottom of Grand Canyon, and into the ugliest aspects of human behavior, Pure Land offers proof of the healing power of nature and of the resiliency of the human spirit.
Grab a copy at Maria's Bookshop for 15% off, recruit a friend, and come ready to discuss at our next outdoor book club meeting on September 20th, 6pm.
